Scrapbook: To My Soulmate

"To My Soulmate" is a customized album, made in shades on grey and blue. Since this scrapbook was a to be gifted to a gentleman, I avoided using any flowers and ribbons. Used lots of diecuts on the cover, and heat embossed some details.

The scrapbook contains over 20 mats, and lots of space for journal-ling.

Kept the box grey, with lots of texture and fun elements.

Added frames, cogs and gears, hidden tags, pockets, and booklets all through the album.

And, thats all folks!
Have a great day,

15 Days into The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge

The Daily Marker 30 Day coloring challenge, hosted by Kathy, is all about taking your coloring skills one step further. It is open to all those who enjoy coloring, and sharing, their passion with others. You can read all about the challenge on The Daily Marker site. I too am participating in it this year, and that is why I have been posting coloring projects on my instagram account daily.

Why am I taking part? It was during the 2015 challenge that Erum Tasneem's beautiful coloring posts inspired me to start coloring once again. I started coloring random images, and then as I got busy with other projects, coloring got sidelined. So, this year I decided that I would take this on seriously and stick through it, making sure that I color every single day of the month. I love to color, and I saw this as a great opportunity to polish my coloring skills.  There are thousands of people, across the globe participating, tons of inspiration and lots to learn; I couldn't just let this go this time.

The past 15 days have been extremely rewarding and I can actually see a massive improvement in my work (even if I say so myself :P ).  Sharing a slideshow of the 15 images that I colored, using water color pencils. These are shared on my instagram account too.

You can join in too, if you like; just color, capture and share on facebook or instagram using #thedailymarker30day hashtag. Visit The Daily Marker for more details.
To stay posted on what I am working on, join me on Instagram.

Have a great day!

Alter / Upcycle Wooden Frame : Inspire

Altered mixed media , Trellis layered stencil , Timholtz
A wooden picture frame had been lying around, all lonely and sad for the past few years. I finally decided to give it a new life, by applying some mixed media techniques to alter / upcycle it.

I used gesso, texture paste, some charms, chipboard diecuts, and lots of ink. Yup, I did capture the process on camera. Embedding the youtube video below:

A Chai-some day!

Beautiful Chai-some day in Karachi today! [Chai = tea]

Loving every bit of it, alhumdolillah. On such beautiful rainy days, I like to indulge in some craft fun, and so I watercolored this sketch that I had purchased, a few years back, from Phuljari designs. And then transformed it into a cute card.

I used the Pelican water colors for this. Beautiful bright colors.
Once colored, I simply cutout the elements, and layered them to make this card.

Stamped the sentiment using archival ink.

Added some elements on the inside too.

Happy Wedding!

Today I am sharing a card, inspired by the Altenew June challenge image (you can find the image at the bottom of the post.)
The challenge required a white on white focal point; so I started by embossing a bunch of white roses using the Vintage Roses stamp set, on to white cardstock. Then, I added gradient to the background using Altenew Inks (Grapevine, Ruby Red) and Distress Ink (Antique Linen). Added layers of white embossed, and plain white diecut vellum to the embossed bunch, along with a stamped sentiment.

Shaker Card Tutorial: Eid Mubarak!

Eid Mubarak! Wishing you and all your loved ones a joyous Eid.

On this blessed day, I have a bright shaker card tutorial to share. I made this specially for Eid, and put together a video tutorial just for YOU! (Its Eidi, from me to you .)

I basically die cut the crescent from the top layer, then heat embossed the stars in gold, using the Simon Says Stamp "Lots of Stars", and the sentiment from Altenew "Eid Greetings" stamp set. Next I inked the card using distress inks (Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed and Seedless Preserves), created the shaker pocket and adhered it to the base card. You can view the entire process in the video tutorial above.

I added micro beads instead of sequence, because of the intricate diecut.

Fun Eidi Envelopes

Every Eid I try and come up with something fun, for family. (And that is actually how my little handmade crafts business evolved, but we will talk about that some other day). So, in 2012 I made these super fun and interactive envelopes for my nephews, on eid.

I wanted the envelopes to be really vibrant, colorful, and desi. So I moved forward with navy blue, bright Red, Orange, Teal, and Yellow.

I used a lot of die cuts on this. To form the moon, I die cut a scalloped circle, punched out the center, and layered it to reveal a crescent, which I highlighted using a white pen.

The fun and interactive bit was, that upon pulling the red tab, the eidi slides out on the other side.
The kids loved them!

These were pretty unusual back then, and so were a big hit. Made something a little more mature for weddings too!

Hope this inspires you make something fun for the kids this Eid!

Welcome Ramadan

Altenew , Kaisercraft , Ramadan

Super excited and happy to share these cards, that I made, to mark the beginning of Ramadan. What adds to my joy is that I finally managed to complete them before the month started.

I created the background by combining three different stamp sets (mainly from BoBunny and Kaisercraft), and then inked it heavily with distress inks. The sentiment is from Altenew.

I went over all the details with ZIG Wink of Stella, so these sparkle when the light hits them. I couldn't capture the sparkle in this picture, but I did instagram it when I was working on the background.

Kept the inside simple, with a "Seize the opportunity" sentiment.

Wishing all of you a blessed Ramadan (in advance).

The Butterfly Card

Here I am today, sharing another one of my projects. It is a simple card, which I have embossed using my scoreboard, and then inked, to create the gorgeous background.
I am so in love with the colors. The butterfly is die cut from one of my Gelli prints.

I did capture the entire process (except the Gelli Printing bit) on camera.

Hello Gelli !

Gelli printing was the first new technique I learnt this year, and I am excited to share my first project with you. I had heard about gelli printing in the past, but never had a chance to explore it, until January when I attended a workshop on "The Magic of Gelli Printing" hosted by Shereen.  It was a great experience and we learnt lots of fun techniques. I finally got around to playing with my Gelli Plate last week and below are the two prints I pulled.

I decided to move forward with the ghost print, and cut out five circles from it.

To be honest, I was planning to make flowers out of these prints, but the die cut circles looked so pretty that I dropped the idea.
To add some dimension, I went ahead and inked the edges. Don't they look like planets!
To add some more depth I faux stitched each, in black. The whole idea behind sharing these 3 steps, is to highlight the difference each detail makes. It adds so much interest to the project.
Next I took a black square card, and arranged the circles on it, to get an idea of the arrangement. Then I went ahead and added some texture to it with paste, and pigment ink.
Next, I stamped some swirls in the background, and on the die cuts. Adhered the die cuts to the base, and cut out a heart to be placed in the center. Heat embossed 'Gratitude'.
Added some micro beads, and it was complete!

Until next time, Happy Crafting!
